How Heidi beat her digestive problems and improved her energy

73-year-old Heidi contacted us because she had been struggling with a range of symptoms for more than a year.

On a scale of 1-10, Heidi rated herself as a 4 or 5, and her list of symptoms was quite long:

  • Multiple, Loose Bowel Movements (3 to 4 per day)
  • Lower abdominal/pelvic discomfort
  • Undigested food in her stool
  • Strong stool/gas odor
  • Feeling full quickly during meals
  • Certain foods aggravate indigestion
  • Cravings for sweets
  • Migraine, cluster headaches
  • Bruise easily
  • Feel cold hands and feet often
  • Waking at night, difficult to go back to sleep
  • Frequent urination
  • Interstitial cystitis
  • Seasonal ear, nose and throat symptoms
  • Hair loss
  • Brain fog
  • Anxiety would often over-react. Lived behind iron curtain, not allowed to express herself
  • Low libido

Heidi was born mid 1940s and had a challenging childhood. She grew up ‘behind the Iron Curtain’ in Eastern Europe and didn’t enjoy the best of health as a child.

Since the age 14, she’d had hospitalizations with bleeding ulcers. Her interstitial cystitis was first diagnosed 30-yrs ago.

She had a pacemaker fitted in 2014 years ago and a complete thyroidectomy (removal of thyroid gland) in July 2017.

As well as her day-to-day symptoms, Heidi had also dealt with four urinary tract infections in the twelve months prior to working with us.

Finally, she was taking Omeprazole (acid blocking medication) without relief prior to our program.

We needed some clues as to why Heidi might not be feeling well, and as we often do, we began by running a stool test.

Heidi’s Stool Test

You can see from the snippet below that Heidi’s stool test revealed some “bad” bacteria living in her digestive tract.

Citrobacter and Klebsiella can cause a lot of irritation and inflammation in the intestine and should not be detected in large amounts.

Furthermore, these bacteria may trigger autoimmune conditions in the body, leading to poor function and damage to other tissues and organs.

These bacteria definitely needed to be dealt with.

Next, the stool test revealed the presence of Candida, as you can see below.

Candida, like the “bad” bacteria above, can cause a lot of irritation in the digestive tract, causing immune reactions, releasing toxins, and preventing proper nutrient absorption.

Finally, it was also clear from Heidi’s stool test that her digestive tract was quite inflamed.

The calprotectin level –– a marker of inflammation –– was quite strongly elevated at 342.

Her b-glucuronidase was also very high, which we often see when people have bacterial overgrowth.

Finally, Heidi’s digestive capacity looked a little compromised:

Her. elastase 1 was borderline low, which tells us she wasn’t producing digestive enzymes very effectively, and her steatocrit was a little high, telling us she wasn’t digesting fats and oils efficiently.

All in all, the stool test result gave Heidi some answers and plenty to work on.

Blood Test

In addition to the stool test, Heidi did a blood test with her doctor, which indicated the following imbalances:

  • Dehydration
  • Low stomach acid
  • Low protein
  • A need for zinc, vitamin B12 and folate
  • Low cholesterol (yes, sometimes people’s cholesterol can be a little too low, which seems to increase the risk for certain diseases)

Heidi’s program

Jack and Heidi worked together for 8 months.

Jack coached Heidi on how to gently change her diet and began a supplement protocol to re-balance her digestive microbes (i.e. get rid of the bad bugs).

After just one week, Heidi’s bowel movements were already improving.

By week 7, people telling Heidi she looked better. She had more energy and had lost 4 lbs. All in all, she felt like she was making great progress.

Her self-reported health level had improved from a 4 or 5 out of ten to an 8 or 9.

In week 14, Heidi reported that she’d had her “best round of golf all year”.

Thereafter Heidi went from strength-to-strength, and sent Jack a nice testimonial:

“After a long history of stomach issues and taking omeprazole without relief, I decided to have a stool test done through the Hompes Method, with Jack as my advisor for several months. My tests revealed several findings including poor digestion of carbohydrates and fats. The work we did on gluten sensitivity has made a great difference too.

Through supplements and diet, we alleviated the stomach issues. I have even lost some weight and found my energy level increase which is very important at 74 years of age to maintain an active lifestyle through sports, volunteering, gardening and more. I continue to follow and maintain the diet which reflected in my most recent bloodwork as having the best numbers yet. My thanks to Jack for the great coaching job.”

Are you or your family fed up with unexplained and ongoing symptoms?

Heidi had struggled with her health for decades. Her story illustrates shows how even longstanding symptoms can often be beaten using the right tools.

It just takes the right testing and a little bit of commitment to overcome the symptoms and feel well again.

Unfortunately, many people struggle with ongoing symptoms without realising that a wide range of incredible tools are available to help.

A home stool test is one of the tools that can help you – it’s the best starting point if you have digestive problems.

It’s quick and easy to do––you don’t even need to visit a clinic.

A test kit is sent to your home, you complete a sample in privacy, and send it back to the lab for analysis.

The private labs really look at the stool sample with detail––way more detail than standard medical testing––and are able to find important information about your digestion that would otherwise be missed.

It is the breadth of information that so often makes the difference to people’s health outcome.

You have to know what you’re up against so you can target the treatment protocols with laser-focus and efficiency.

So, if you’re bored of having a bunch of unexplained symptoms and you just want some answers, here’s how we can help.

Click here to learn more about getting a home stool test – there’s tons of info on the benefits and how the process works.

Most importantly, please realise that you don’t have to put up with feeling crappy.

The solutions are there for you!

All our best,
