How Kelli transformed her digestive problems and made a full recovery

Kelli had struggled with constipation since childhood, but she contacted us because her symptoms had taken a turn for the worse.

About a year before contacting us, Kelli had suddenly woken with intense stomach pain. She was rushed to the emergency room where she had a CT scan and other tests.

The CT scan turned out to be negative––nothing could be found––and the hospital’s digestive test did not detect H. pylori or other infections, yet Kelli’s symptoms remained quite severe for 2-weeks thereafter.

Her digestive pain gradually improved, but she also developed more symptoms over the next few months, prior to contacting us.

These symptoms included:

  • Gas and bloating
  • Heartburn and acid reflux
  • The feeling of a lump in her throat
  • A hiatal hernia (diagnosed)
  • Constipation (since childhood, as mentioned above, which was managed with fibre and suppositories)
  • Poor quality sleep, needing melatonin
  • Over-sensitive to hot and cold temperatures
  • Recurrent vaginal yeast infections
  • Bladder sensitivity
  • Claustrophobia, which was exacerbated by taking frequent flights as part of her job

Kelli had already done a comprehensive stool test through her doctor but wanted our help to interpret the results and explore a wider variety of methods to hopefully get her back on the road to health and wellness.

She worked long-distance with Jack, our clinic manager and the results were excellent.

Kelli’s stool test result

You can see from the snippets below that Kelli’s digestive bacteria were quite out of balance, with certain species being too high and certain ones too low.

Rather than having an infection, we call this imbalance “dysbiosis”.

Here are some of the low levels in Kelli’s friendly bacteria (what we might call a ‘bacteria deficiency’)

And here are some of the “bad” bacteria that are present in Kelli’s digestive system in excessive amounts.

Unfortunately, dysbiosis (or bacterial imbalance) isn’t really considered to be much of a in Western medicine.

This leaves many people struggling to understand why they have digestive symptoms. Obviously a more comprehensive stool test can help.

Action Steps

Jack and Kelli worked together for 4 months, although Kelli’s symptoms began improving much faster.

Kelli removed some foods from her diet––particularly eggs and corn. This made a huge difference to her gas and bloating.

She felt intuitively that she should try minimizing her consumption of eggs, and Jack also recommended she avoid corn having seen that she was eating quite a lot of it.

Jack also recommended that Kelli ought to cut down on her consumption of nuts and seeds because these foods can be very irritating to the digestive system for some people despite being labeled as “healthy” by many people.

Kelli followed a simple protocol to address the findings of her stool test––antimicrobial herbs to kill off the bad bugs, binders to absorb toxins in her digestive tract, and nutrients/herbs to help repair and heal her digestive lining).

In addition to the dietary changes and supplement protocol, Jack helped Kelli change her perceptions around her symptoms and around good, and a big bonus for Kelli was that food became more interesting and enjoyable again.

She was calmer, in control, more focused and less anxious about travelling for work where she had to deal with different foods and environments.

Did Kelli’s symptoms improve?

After working together for 4 months, Kelli’s symptoms had been transformed.

  • Her excessive gas and bloating had all but disappeared
  • The heartburn and acid reflux had completely gone
  • The lump in throat was alleviated
  • She was no longer aware of having a hiatal hernia
  • She was able to have normal bowel movements without taking fiber or using suppositories
  • Her sleep quality had improved and she no longer needed to take melatonin
  • The vaginal yeast infections were improving
  • Bladder sensitivity was improving
  • Even her claustrophobia was improving

Kelli was really pleased with her progress and wrote a nice letter to thank Jack:

I’m so thankful for Jack. After months and months of researching and self-diagnosing, one of my searches led me to the Dave Hompes’ website. Being at the end of my rope with terrible stomach and digestive issues, I emailed to ask a few questions and Jack emailed me back. Not knowing much about their program, I was a bit skeptical at first but Jack’s responsiveness reassured me that he was the real deal. After having a comprehensive stool test done, I partnered with Jack on the program and his support and encouragement cannot be overstated. I was so desperate for guidance and practical steps and Jack was the answer to my prayers. He’s a counselor and functional health coach all rolled into one 🙂 I improved SO much and feel equipped to use the tools I learned to continue on my journey to optimal function and wellness. If you’re in doubt, don’t be. You won’t regret partnering with Jack, he’s the best.

Kelli

Are you or your family fed up with unexplained and ongoing symptoms?

Kelli’s case shows how even lifelong digestive symptoms can be resolved by running the right tests and using a sensible nutrition, lifestyle, and functional medicine strategy.

Nobody needs to put up with digestive symptoms. Nor should you put up with ongoing health problems involving mood, energy, skin and others.

It just takes the right testing and a little bit of commitment to overcome the symptoms and feel well again.

Unfortunately, many people limp on with ongoing symptoms without realising that a wide range of incredible tools are available to help.

It’s not uncommon for some of our clients to have been suffering with symptoms for years or even decades, as you saw with Kelli.

A home stool test is one of the tools that can help you.

It’s the best starting point if you have digestive problems.

It’s quick and easy to do––you don’t even need to visit a clinic.

A test kit is sent to your home, you complete a sample in privacy, and send it back to the lab for analysis.

The private labs really look at the stool sample with detail––way more detail than standard medical testing––and are able to find important information about your digestion that would otherwise be missed.

It is the breadth of information that so often makes the difference to people’s health outcome.

You have to know what you’re up against so you can target the treatment protocols with laser-focus and efficiency.

So, if you’re bored of having a bunch of unexplained symptoms and you just want some answers, here’s how we can help.
