How Don beat years of stomach, back and leg pain

Don, in his seventies, contacted us with excruciating sciatica (neurological leg pain) and longstanding stomach problems.

He’d been struggling with these symptoms for a long time and had spent a lot of money bouncing around from specialist to specialist, trying to get some answers.

Fortunately, he found relief from his symptoms with some simple adjustments to his nutrition and lifestyle, and some functional medicine testing.

Don’s case is not isolated. We’ve seen a gluten-free diet improve the lives of many people.

Because it’s free and relatively easy to do, we recommend a gluten-free diet to most of our clients, and we usually suggest avoiding cow’s milk and soy.

Sometimes, however, these diet changes only give moderate improvements, and sometimes none at all.

In these situations, the next best action step in our humble opinion is to undertake some detailed testing to find out what’s actually going on.

We use a wide array of tests, including blood-work, organic acids, hair testing and hormone analysis.

But our preferred starting point is a stool test.

When I was feeling under the weather in 2007, diet changes didn’t make a dent in my symptoms.

I did a stool test, which detected H. pylori. I took some herbs to eradicate the H. pylori and many of my symptoms were gone within 30-days. I was delighted.

BUT, I wasn’t 100%: I still had smelly stools and abdominal cramping.

Another stool test confirmed that H. pylori had gone, but it detected a parasite called Blastocystis hominis, and a mould overgrowth with Aspergillus.

Another set of herbal protocols fixed everything.

My point is this:

You can gain incredible benefits from changing your diet, as Don did. It’s free and relatively simple to cut out things like gluten, cow’s milk and soy, and this can make a huge difference.

Or, you might need some additional investigation, like I did, because diet changes don’t seem to be helping. This costs a bit more, but the rewards are worth every penny… and more.

I know it can be confusing to struggle on with a host of weird symptoms and I know it can be frustrating if you’re not getting anywhere with your doctor.

If you’d like some help, please don’t hesitate to shout.

As a first step, change your diet. Don’t just talk about it. Do it.
