Testing your digestive health

The benefits and drawbacks of ultrasound tests

Summary

  • Ultrasounds are great for finding cysts, growths, stones, and structural abnormalities in the GI tract and internal organs.
  • But we should always ask “why is the cyst there?” or “why have the gallstones developed?” or “why do i have a fatty liver?”
  • These medical conditions sometimes need treating with pharmaceuticals or even surgery, but why did they develop in the first place, and would it be a good idea to dig a little deeper?
  • These things don’t happen accidentally – there is always a cause.
  • In my experience, functional lab testing can often help to find the underlying cause.
  • Unfortunately, the medical system doesn’t seek to find the root cause, so it’s left up to us to take responsibility for doing so.
  • This is where home stool testing and other functional lab tests come into their own.
