Testing your digestive health

The benefits and drawbacks of various scans, imaging and x-ray tests

Summary

  • CT, MRI scans, and x-rays can help doctors to find all manner of things in the digestive system.
  • Abscesses, cysts, polyps, ulcers, blockages can all be detected.
  • Cancer, kidney infections, inflammatory bowel diseases and organ enlargement can also be detected.
  • These scans can also find cancer tumours.
  • These medical conditions sometimes need treating with pharmaceuticals or even surgery, but why did they develop in the first place, and would it be a good idea to dig a little deeper?
  • These things don’t happen accidentally – there is always a cause.
  • In my experience, functional lab testing can often help to find the underlying cause.
  • Unfortunately, the medical system doesn’t seek to find the root cause, so it’s left up to us to take responsibility for doing so.
  • This is where home stool testing and other functional lab tests come into their own.
