The causes of heartburn and acid reflux

Part 5 – How H. pylori causes heartburn and acid reflux

Summary

  • If diet changes and acid blocking meds don’t reduce your heartburn, you could have H. pylori
  • H. pylori is a common stomach bacterium – it’s present in a lot of people
  • It is one of the main cause of heartburn and acid reflux
  • H. pylori was the main reason for my heartburn and reflux back in 2007
  • H. pylori infections always cause stomach inflammation (gastritis)
  • It can become very destructive, causing ulcers and stomach cancer
  • Stomach acid levels may increase or decrease with H. pylori infections – it seems to depend where the H. pylori colonies are living within the stomach
  • In my opinion it’s essential to test for H. pylori if heartburn and reflux do not go away through diet and lifestyle changes, or when acid blocking meds are ineffective
  • Don’t mess with H. pylori, and don’t delay getting it properly treated; if you leave it to chance, the consequences may be deadly
