The causes of heartburn and acid reflux

Part 8 – How a hiatal hernia can cause heartburn and acid reflux

Summary

  • Hiatal hernias are a common reason for heartburn and reflux.
  • The stomach pokes through the diaphragm, causing discomfort.
  • Hiatal hernias can be caused by sneezing, coughing, vomiting, lifting heavy weights and general poor posture.
  • Medical practitioners may state that surgery is needed to repair a hernia, but this should be a last resort as there are other options.
  • For example, a visceral osteopath or similarly trained practitioner can help (I’ve seen this work really well for some people).
  • I have personally witnessed and worked with clients who completely resolved their hernias without needing surgery.
