The causes of heartburn and acid reflux

Part 6 – How Candida, SIBO and parasites can end up causing heartburn and acid reflux

Summary

  • If dietary changes don’t improve your heartburn, then something deeper may be causing the symptoms.
  • Candida overgrowth, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), and parasites are quite common.
  • Candida and SIBO can definitely cause heartburn.
  • They increase gas production in the small intestine, which increased intra-abdominal pressure and pushes stomach contents upwards and into the oesophagus.
  • Candida can also overgrow in the oesophagus and cause a lot of irritation there.
  • Issues with SIBO, Candida, and parasites usually mean that your GI tract health and general metabolic health need attention.
  • These issues can all be dealt with but you must know what is going on because the treatments differ if you have Candida compared with H. pylori or SIBO.
  • Thus, it’s important to run lab testing to find these critters and deal with them appropriately.
