Most of it’s good information, but it lacks a single, vital component. I’ve worked with hundreds of people who’d tried following a lot of this scattered information, without success. The one mistake all these people made is simply this: they tried to treat the Candida whilst ignoring themselves. You see, Candida only overgrows when it has the opportunity to do so. Thus, in addition to using anti-Candida herbs or medications, it’s imperative to determine why it overgrew in the first place and deal with those reasons, too. Taking anti-Candida herbs or probiotics might lead to short-term improvements in symptoms. But the symptoms are highly likely to return if you don’t improve the function of your own gut and immune system. Why Candida Overgrows I don’t mean to sound like a stuck record as I’ve covered this in other posts, but here’s a brief list of reasons why Candida overgrows: 1. Eating a lot of sugar and processed carbohydrates feeds Candida and allows it to spread rapidly. 2. Taking antibiotics can reduce the good bacteria in your gut, and create space for Candida to overgrow. 3. Stress in all its forms (mental, emotional, dietary, blood sugar, etc.) reduces immune function and enables opportunistic overgrowth of Candida and other organisms. 4. H. pylori, parasites and other bad bugs can deplete immune function and enable Candida to spread. 5. The use of antacid medications such as proton pump inhibitors has been shown in research to allow Candida overgrowth in the stomach. 6. Low stomach acid levels, low pancreatic enzyme levels, bile levels and other digestive factors can allow Candida to overgrow. 7. Finally, mercury poisoning (e.g. from amalgam fillings) is strongly associated with Candida overgrowth. The Drugs and Herbs Don’t Work You could spend a lot of money on herbs or meds to “treat” a Candida overgrowth, but your Candida is going to come right back with a vengeance if you don’t:
Likewise, if you have parasites, bacteria like H. pylori and others, the chances are you’ll need to deal with these first, before you add the anti-Candida program. Believe me, I wish 30-60 days of herbs did the trick. Often times, you’ll feel great while on the herbs as they kill of the bad bugs, but a month, two, three, six months later, the symptoms return. The 4Rs In my opinion, gut healing needs four distinct stages. In functional medicine we call these stages the “4Rs”, which simply means Phase I – Remove If you leave any of the four phases out, you run the risk of regressing back to your original symptoms. Alas, many folk want a “quick” fix. They – and perhaps you have experienced this – genuinely do feel better when they take herbs to kill bad bugs. They think the job is done and go back to living the way they were when they symptoms developed in the first place. Sure enough, the symptoms creep back. Believe it or not, removing bad bugs is not that hard. Some are more stubborn than others, but in the main, they can be gotten rid of pretty quickly. It’s the healing that takes time. But anyway, one of the biggest problems with removing bad bugs is this: How the heck do you know which ones to remove? If you’re walking round feeling tired and moody, if your digestive system feels like a washing machine and all the other symptoms that you may be experiencing, you could have any number of different bugs in there causing the problems. The only way you’re going to figure out what you need to remove is by running a comprehensive stool test. It’s by far the quickest, simplest and most effective way to cut to the chase. The vast majority of the 2,000 or more people we’ve helped using these tests would all agree. If you’re not getting anywhere with your symptoms, check out the stool testing details right here, right now. Don’t forget, the tests are done in the comfort of your own home, you just send them off in the packaging provided. And if they come back blank, you get a full refund. All my best, Dave.
