One of the main reasons I wrote The H Pylori Diet was to educate people – hopefully you included – that H pylori is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to symptoms such as heartburn, reflux, fatigue, nausea and bloating. If you have H pylori, you may find that you can’t find a solution to your symptoms unless you also alter your diet as well.
These days, with all our medical technology, we seem to always be seeking a complex solution to our problems, but simply avoiding exposure to things that our bodies don’t like has been shown in research to be the single biggest factor in healing.
If you avoid the foods I mention in this article, I absolutely guarantee that 50% of you or more will experience enormous benefits. I can’t wait to share the information with you…
It is now common knowledge that triple therapy antibiotic treatments are becoming less effective in treating H pylori, leading to more treatment failures and confusion as to what should happen once the treatment has failed.
Even when treatments for H pylori are successful, there is no guarantee that symptoms such as heartburn, acid reflux, constipation, IBS, bloating, fatigue and headaches will go away.
The reason for this is simple: even when H pylori is present, other things can cause your symptoms, which means that even when you eradicate H pylori, you still don’t feel well.
Unfortunately, diet is rarely considered in these situations, but in actual fact, common foods that are consumed on a daily basis by many people can cause exactly the same symptoms as the Helicobacter bacteria itself.
Some symptoms can be relieved completely when these foods are avoided:
Food #1 – Gluten
Gluten refers to a group of protein molecules found in the grains wheat, barley, rye and spelt. All foods that contain these grains have gluten in them (e.g. bread, pasta, cakes, biscuits, cereals, pizza).
Many people are gluten-intolerant and in my experience gluten is the number one problem food. Gluten causes inflammation in the small intestine, much like H pylori. In many cases, simply eliminating the gluten can dramatically reduce symptoms.
Sometimes people cannot eradicate H pylori until they have been on a gluten-free diet for at least 60-days.
If you’re unsure which foods contain gluten and which ones don’t, I invite you to read The H Pylori Diet as it contains all the information you need to eat foods that heal your digestive system rather than damaging it.
Here’s what one customer said about avoiding some of these key foods:
Dear Dave thank you so much for the copy of your book about H-pylori … it is very very helpful and as you know your diet changed my life …. I did have the antibiotics for my H-Pylori but being free of Gluten Soya and dairy ……. I had been off sugar and caffeine and refined foods for 25 year … but coming off the last three has been wonderful … i may try a month of the Matula herb formula sometime after the summer … too busy with Grand children right now ….thank you again for all your help …tell lots of people about your book and diet …. some jump at it others very skeptical sorry to say …. including my daughter in law who will insist on giving our son and grand children wheat when I can see at least four of them need to be on your diet … sad when people wan’t try things for their health.
Thanks again for all your good work … I feel great …best in 69 years!!!
Isobel Dougan
Food #2 – Coffee
I love coffee, but unfortunately in any form coffee is an irritant to the digestive system. Many people report having heartburn, reflux and other digestive symptoms when they drink coffee.
It is best to reduce coffee consumption if H pylori bacteria are present. I often recommend that my clients remove coffee completely for 2 weeks and then reintroduce it to see whether it causes problems. I recommend that you do the same.
There are other potential benefits in avoiding coffee. One of the biggest additional benefits is that it reduces the amount of stimulation to your adrenal glands. Adrenal fatigue is very common in our society and caffeine can over-stimulate and weaken these glands.
If you feel like you need a cup of coffee or two to “get going” in the morning, you really should have your adrenal hormones tested using a simple saliva test. Check out the testing details here.
Food #3 – Soy
Soy foods have in recent times been touted as being healthy and, in some cases, miracle foods. However this information is far from the truth.
In fact, soy is not a healthy food for most people. Even in Japan it is the number one allergy causing food. It can have a direct impact on the digestive system and cause similar symptoms to H pylori (it causes me to have wind, bloating and loose stools).
Many people experience significant improvements when they eliminate soy in all forms. The tricky thing is knowing exactly where it’s hidden. Soy can be used in vegetable oil, for example, but the food manufacturers don’t have to write “soy” on the label.
These three foods are not the only ones that I recommend you avoid or minimise if you have H pylori, but try avoiding them for 30-days and see how you go. You may just be surprised at how much better you feel.
A complete list of foods to avoid, as well as recipes, shopping guides, tips on how to save time and complete herbal protocol for the eradication of H pylori is available in The H Pylori Diet. I Highly recommend you read it and implement the recommendations as soon as possible.

Hi, I’m a 32 year old female living in Guyana, South America. And reading this article almost brought tears to my eyes..tears of relief that there is something out there to help.
I’ve been ill with constipation, headaches, bloating, wind (gas), muscle pain in the face for a very long time..over 12 years..or maybe more. I’ve also been diagnose wit glaucoma which I taught until recently contributed to the headaches and facial discomfort.
Having had the flu only last week..I’m still coughing but being treated..I was referred to a special doctor who really seem to know what he’s about. Anyway, I explained my condition and the discomfort, including shortness of breath.
After examining me he’d recommended some medication and sent me for blood tests..all was well except…’H.something’..which meant I have H.pylori..so I’m now using the H.pylori kit for 7 days.
I like to research “anything” I’m suppose to be diagnose with and learn more about proper health, including diet..it was very surprising to learn that what I taught as being healthy food is not..and I believe because I’m very health conscious so I honestly believed that eating whole grain, using soy products and the like was good for me..like eating dark chocolate is good for brain health..
Like i mention above, so glad that I read this article..it was 1 in a few that has given me some very insightful information.
Thanks,
Malika
Hi Malika,
Thank you for your post, all the way from Guyana. I am sorry to read about your symptoms.
H. pylori can cause some of these symptoms, and is even associated with eye problems, although there isn’t that much research out there in this area.
H. pylori can certainly contribute to headaches, constipation and bloating, but it might not be the only cause of these symptoms.
Other infections like parasites and fungi can cause similar symptoms, and countries like Guyana are “hotspots” for some of these infections.
I recommend you first change your diet – if you need help, read my H Pylori Diet book, which you can download to your computer or phone.
Second, try to get a comprehensive stool test from your doctor to check for parasites and Candida.
If you find any of these infections, it is wise to remove them.
I hope this helps, and good luck with your H. pylori eradication program.
Dave Hompes.
Just had to periods of hospitalization where a gastroscopy found I had a duodenal ulcer which had bled for some 6 days without any symptoms other than a black stool ( coffee grain like).
I lost much blood & had 10 units of blood transfusion while in hospital ( twice within a 3 week period).
I am home now, taking 3 different antibiotics and a strong anti acid medication.
I would like to also change my diet so it may assist in my healing process.
I have read all your articles on the internet and hope that you may guide me in my recovery, Sincere regards and thanks for your most informative advice on the Internet., Lili
Hello Lili,
Thank you for your post. Duodenal ulcers can certainly be caused by H pylori, and as you know they can cause very nasty symptoms.
Once you have completed your triple therapy H pylori treatment, I recommend you work hard to restore your intestinal health.
– Consider following up your H pylori antibiotic treatment with some herbs (mastic gum, garlic extract and matula herbal formula)
– Use a supplement that contains DGL, glutamine, slippery elm and other gut repair nutrients/herbs.
– Consider some trumeric/curcumin
– Use some high quality probiotics as they help to bring down inflammation and heal the intestine.
– All the above have been shown to help people reduce their H pylori symptoms, and some of the herbs actually fight H pylori specifically.
Regarding your diet, I recommend you read my book, The H Pylori Diet.
It teaches you a great deal about which foods to avoid to heal your intestine, and which ones to eat instead.
Warmest regards,
Dave
Hpylori related challanges for a while now.
Hi Adnaan,
What kind of challenges? What have you tried in terms of H. Pylori treatment?
Have you used triple therapy antibiotics? Have you tried altering your diet (perhaps read The H Pylori Diet?)
What herbs have you tried?
Feel free to drop us an email so we can help.
Best,
Dave Hompes
I was tested last week and I have H-Pylori I started the PevPack Triple therapy. A 14 day supply. Should my husband be tested also? Do you think I have a chance of getting rid of it? I am 63 years old . Any information I should be aware of? JULIE
Hi Julie,
I do recommend you have your husband tested because research indicates that H. pylori can be transmitted from person to person via saliva – kissing, drinking and eating utensils, etc.
If you have any difficulty getting an H. pylori test from your doctor, please consider the one we offer – it’s a great test and is very easy to do.
Click here if you’d like more details about the homem H pylori test.
Please also make sure that you get yourself retested 4 weeks after you have completed your H. pylori treatment, as it’s important to ensure you have successfully eradicated the bacteria.
Best,
Dave Hompes
Would appreciate all your information on ways of eradicating pylori. I have bought your book and found that it is very informative. However me being from Malaysia find it a bit hard to follow your diet programme.
Thanks for your comment, and also thanks very much for buying my book.
Eradicating H. pylori can be a challenge.
Some people do very well using the H. pylori triple therapy treatment (antibiotics from the doctor).
Unfortunately triple therapy can cause a lot of side effects for some folk, and may not completely eradicate H. pylori (statistically, the treatments are about 70% effective around the world).
Various herbs and foods can fight H. pylori, including Mastic Gum, Matula Herbal Formula, garlic/allicilin, licorice root, bismuth.
Coconut oil, broccoli sprouts and others can also help and the use of probiotics is effective in some people for reducing H. pylori’s symptoms.
Have you checked the specific protocols in the book – these are the ones we use to help our clients beat H. pylori.
In regard to diet, I have been to Malaysia twice, and so I think it’s no problem for you to eat meats, fish, seafood, fruit and vegetables – this approach will automatically exclude many of the problem-causing foods discussed in my H Pylori Diet book.
You may be able to find local suppliers in Malaysia.
Warm regards,
Dave Hompes.
I am very intersted in your diet. I have been through 3 rounds of treatment and still do not feel better….

Hi Tina,
Thank you for your message.
My very best piece of advice to help you overcome H pylori and its symptoms
would be to first read my book.

treat H pylori using herbs.
It also contains a list of foods to eat, foods to avoid, as well as meal planners
and basic recipe ideas.
I can’t really do the information justice by trying to cram it into bullet points here.

i have H pylori what food is recommended for such patients and treatment
Ruth,
There are a number of foods that you’d do well to avoid. Why? Because often times foods are causing the same symptoms as H. pylori. In other words, what you may think are H. pylori symptoms may actually be caused by the food you are eating.
A beginner’s list would include gluten, soy, vegetable oils and processed sugar. Cow’s milk can also be a problem.
Try avoiding these initially and see how you feel.
I offer a complete H. Pylori Diet solution in my e-book, named The H. Pylori Diet.
It teaches you a complete list of foods to avoid, which foods to eat instead, how to adopt healthy eating habits, as well as recipes, shopping lists and many other hints and tips.
It also teaches you which herbs and natural products you can use to fight H. pylori and remove its symptoms.
Warmest regards
Dave

i have severe chronic H Pylori. Need some info on what foods are good to eat.
Hi JD,
Ok, it’s not as simple as just choosing foods to eat. It’s also very much about choosing foods to avoid, too. Having worked with more than 2,000 people around the world I can tell you one thing: people’s symptoms improve most often when they avoid specific foods, as opposed to eating others.
Foods can cause the same or similar symptoms as H. pylori. In fact, H. pylori symptoms are often confused with symptoms that are being caused by the foods people are eating.
To begin with, avoid milk, soy and gluten – my book (The H Pylori Diet) teaches you exactly how to do this, as well as providing some really simple recipes to get you started.
Furthermore, it also teaches you which herbs to take in order to fight H. pylori more effectively – specifically which products and what doses, whether to take the herbs with food, or away from food, and the best duration for success.
Check it out by clicking here.
Hope this helps – let us know if we can assist further!
Best,
Dave.
I have just found your site and would like to read your book.
I had been suffering symptoms for some time and had had the triple treatment once. Our Daughter in Law was on a wheat free diet and suggested I try it as I had very bad eczema on my hands and she had read that someone had gone on the diet and her eczma had gone. I tried it and it did go. Then my doctor called me in after a review as my cholesterol had shot up to 5.9 and he wanted to put me on Statins which I didn’t want to do. He said I could follow a low fat diet for three months and then have the blood test again. I am checked regularly as my Mother had a problem which is hereditary hence my Brother and I are checked. I wondered if the wheat free diet could have been anything to do with it so went back to eating wheat. That was about 4 weeks ago and now for the past week the H pylori symptoms have returned and I have only just realised that while I was on the gluten free diet I hadn’t had any at all. I have spoken with my Doctor this morning and he is leaving me a pot and prescription for the antibiotic triple treatment which my Husband has just gone to collect. Do you think this is good cause for eliminating wheat permanantly.
Kind regards
Anne

My name is juliet,am 23years old from nigeria,i tested for h.pylori and it was positive, but i would want to knw if h.pylori is making me have these symptoms……i have upper back and chest pressure and heaviness not pain,no pains, but the pressure is so much like elephant sitting on my chest, pressing my chest against my back n vice-versa and constant belching and bloating after any little meal, have done xray, nothing is there, doctors said its peptic ulcer ….gave me drugs upon drugs and injections now am always dizzing and urinating constantly……please help me in God name……i dont knw what else to do
Hi Juliet,
Thank you for your post. You seem to have been very unfortunate – let me see if I can help you.
I do believe H. pylori can be causing your symptoms, but it might not be the only cause – they may be other reasons for feeling unwell.
Your doctors are correct – it could be an ulcer, and the ulcer may be the result of having H. pylori.
The problem I have is not knowing very much about you. However, I recommend you do some research on the following:
– Food sensitivity (I recommend you cut the following out of your diet > gluten, rice, cow’s milk, soy, sugar > see how you feel when you do this.
– Candida overgrowth (can happen as a result of H. pylori antibiotic treatments.)
– Low stomach acid (hypochlorhydria)
If you would like more detailed help, please consider reading my e-book, The H Pylori Diet.
If you are urinating constantly, you may have picked up a urinary tract infection (UTI). This would need to be checked by your doctor.
I would love to be able to help you with the laboratory testing we use, but this would be difficult with you being in Nigeria. Do you plan to travel at all, perhaps to the UK, Europe, or USA at all?
Anyway, please do not hesitate to email us if you would like further individual assistance.
Warmest regards
Dave Hompes.
assist me on does and don’ts now that my Hpylori is positive.thanks
Hi there, Maco
What kind of help are you looking for?
You may want to take a look at my H pylori Diet ebook – it’s a very helpful little resource and will help you understand a lot more about H pylori, and also how to get rid of it once and for all.
Best,
Dave.
Are you saying Do not take the antibiotics that are prescribed and follow this diet?
If I do, will it kill all the H Pylori?
Hi Edwin, thanks for your comment – I appreciate the opportunity to clarify for you.
Antibiotics for H pylori work in about 70% of the cases (this is shown by research and is well known among scientists).
BUT they also cause side effects and can trigger other problems. If H pylori, and H pylori alone, is causing your symptoms, then the antibiotics have a 70% chance of working for you but they can still trigger the overgrowth of Candida, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and so on.
If common foods and other factors are causing your symptoms, taking antibiotics won’t make you feel better. You might kill H pylori, but the other factors will continue to make you feel unwell – this is why I recommend changing your diet and considering factors other than H pylori.
Read my book, The H Pylori Diet, and make an informed decision on what you feel is the best way forward.
I’ve been working with people from around the world for nearly 8 years now and I can tell you in 100% confidence that you CAN eradicate H pylori using herbs – mastic gum, cabbage juice extract, garlic, lauric acid, sulforaphane, bismuth, etc.
My book shows you how to use these products safely and for maximum impact if you do not want to use antibiotics.
Best,
Dave Hompes.

Good morning i been eating all the wrong kind of food no wonder i get sick every morning do i need tp avoid all meat
No, I recommend you read the H Pylori Diet book, which you can learn about here:
My name is Dawn and my daughter has had H-pylori for years. She was treated at UNC Chapel Hill and always tested positive even after antibiotics. I finally quit carrying her cause they couldn’t find out why it wasn’t helping and started figuring out the triggers and what she needed to avoid. Milk, ice cream/some cheese is one thing because there is a enzyme in it that causes a reaction to the bacteria, and sweets cause when it hits the bacteria it causes a gas and causes pain. Just a couple of things we figured out to avoid. My daughter was 7 when she was diagnosed after having a intestinal blockage, she’s fixing to turn 17, I hope it gets easier for her as she gets older
