Of all the symptoms experienced by our clients, bloating is one of the most uncomfortable, and it’s very common. It also often comes with pain and embarrassing gas and wind.
In this short article I will teach you the main reasons why you might be feeling bloated, along with some simple steps on how to bring your bloating down and “deflate” yourself!
Look, bloating isn’t hard to resolve once you know why it’s happening. Once you know why the bloating is there, you can overcome it relatively easy.
Without going into too much detail, the main reasons you feel bloated are:
Inflammation in your digestive system caused by some common and highly irritating foods, including gluten, cow’s milk (especially the lactose it contains), soy and sugar.
An overgrowth of bad bugs in your stomach and intestine. H. pylori, Candida and parasites can all cause bloating.
Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) can cause a lot of bloating and irritation.
When bad bugs overgrow in your gut, they cause fermentation; a natural product of fermentation is gas; when you have gas in your system, you become bloated.
Sugar, processed carbohydrate, fruit juices and other sugar foods can exacerbate this problem.
Low stomach acid levels, poor pancreatic function and depressed liver and gallbladder function can also cause bloating because you do not digest food properly. Undigested food provides a great source of nutrients for bugs in your gut, so they overgrow and cause fermentation, gas and bloating.
In nearly every cases of bloating – and I’ve worked with hundreds – some combination of the above six factors has been the culprit.
So you see, it’s really easy to get rid of your bloating once you know why you have it in the first place.
Let’s look at the key action steps for getting rid of your bloating and gas.
The first simple step you can take is to reduce your consumption of some of the key “bloating foods”. These are:
In some cases this will completely resolve your bloating.
If you’d like more information on exactly how to make these dietary adaptations, please read The H. Pylori Diet, as it teaches you what to avoid and what to eat instead when you have symptoms like bloating, gas, abdominal pain and more.
If changing your diet fails to improve your situation, it’s nearly always because you have a bunch of uninvited guests hanging out in your digestive system.
Bad bugs, namely bacteria, parasites and fungi like Candida cause tons of bloating problems.
They irritate your gut and ferment food causing gas, bloating, loose stools and even constipation.
What’s more, they can also make you feel tired, alter your mood, cause skin problems and even aches and pains in your body.
The way you get rid of these bugs depends on which ones you have, and how long they have might have been there.
But how do you know which ones you have? Well, just as I did, you need to run a test.
Fortunately, home-based stool tests are available to help you uncover which bad bugs are living in your digestive system.
These tests are ultra-convenient and can save you untold amounts of time and money by getting to the root cause of your symptoms.

The final step when it comes to alleviating bloating is to make sure you are digesting food properly.
Inadequate chewing, eating on the run and eating in a stressful environment can prevent you from digesting food properly – I recommend you ask yourself whether you can improve in these areas.
Low stomach acid, low digestive enzyme levels and a sluggish liver/gallbladder can also create a situation where you don’t digest your food properly.
Undigested food provides a breeding ground for bad bugs – they ferment the food you’ve eaten and you blow up like a balloon as a result.
I recommend you set time aside for eating, eat in a relaxed state and chew your food thoroughly (minimum 25 times per mouthful).
You can try taking the following supplements to help reduce bloating:

A Home Stool Test
Doing a home stool test changed my life – I’m not sure whether I would have found out why I felt unwell had I not done one. I wish I had done one a lot sooner as it would have saved a lot of toil and struggle!
Our H. pylori home stool test tells you whether you have H. pylori, which strain you have, and whether you have an antibiotic strain. It is a completely unique test and has extremely limited availability. Click here for details.
If you would like to check for parasites, Candida overgrowth, whether you are digesting your food and whether you have a damaged immune system, you can also do this from your own home. I recommend this test if you are feeling bloated, as it is very comprehensive.
